Itchy Bumps On My Arm

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What are these small itchy bumps on my arms and legs?
There are these small itchy bumps all over my arms and legs. They feel and look like goosebumps but they're red and a little bigger. Some also have holes in the center with blood kind of sitting there. They itch real bad but they don't bother me at school (I don't know why). But they bother me all day when I'm at home. There Re none on my hands or my body but there are some on my wrist. They don't itch as much. I have less on my calves than my arms. They also feel a bit bigger, too. But my thighs are just like my arms, except they have a bit less on them. I heard folliculitis is caused when the follicles are irritated or blocked by things like cocoa butter. I use a lotion that has cocoa butter on my arms and legs. But I never used it on my body. Maybe it's folliculitis. But a website said that the bumps have hairs in the centers. The bumps I have don't even have hairs on them (which I think is weird). It started this Sunday morning. I brushed my hand against my left arm and I felt the bumps. I ignored them thinking it was my eczema. I put some cortizone on it when I got home (I was at a friend's house). But the next day they were on my arms and legs. I told my parents but they kind of brushed it away saying that it was my eczema. I don't want to go to a doctor cuz we can't really afford it right now. Please help me. If you know what it is, please also give me suggestions on what I should do to get rid of them. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Hard to say, it could be an rash or allergic reaction. When you got them after you went to your friend it might be that something is over there that got an allergic reaction to your skin.
I would try it first with an anti itch cream and later with an healing cream and than they should be gone. If not you might have to see an doctor or dermatologist for it, so try to get rid of it without seeing any of them..

  2. QUESTION:
What red itchy bumps that start on the stomach called?
Well i have these red itchy bumps that started on my stomach. They are also on my legs and arm and i dont know called. The bumps are really itchy.

    • ANSWER:
It might be pityriasis rosea. My wife had it and it sucks HARD. If you had a red, quarter-sized, non-itchy rash somewhere on your chest, arms, or abdomen, that would clinch it. Unfortuantely there's nothing they can do about it and it can last for several months.

Of course, it could be any number of things: an allergic reaction, poison ivy, chicken pox, scabies, etc. However if you don't have any guess about what caused it, see a doctor.

  3. QUESTION:
How do I get rid of these bumps from an allergic reaction to latex kitchen gloves?
Silly me didn't pay attention and bought a pair of latex dishwashing gloves. I'm allergic to the powdery latex substance in the gloves. I used them and now I have itchy bumps all over my arms, neck and face (I guess I touch my face a lot!) They aren't that visible, but I can feel the hundreds of tiny little bumps. I stopped using the gloves 5 days ago (only using them once) and have used cortisone cream on the rash, but nothing has worked. What are some other home remedies to use? The allergic reaction isn't so severe that I need to go to the doctor. I just need some relief.
Not just the powdery substance...the actual latex glove itself as well.

  4. QUESTION:
How do i know if these itchy bumps are mosquito bites or bug bites?
I have these red itchy bumps on me (some of them are in clumps) that look like mosquito bites but its not even that warm out and i don't go outside that often. My sister is in college so is it possible that she brought them back with her? The bumps are on my arms, butt, and back. PLEASE HELP 10 POINTS

    • ANSWER:
It would be impossible to diagnose this over the internet. If you haven't been outside and you have many then they are probably another type of bug. It is very hard to distinguish bug bites.

  5. QUESTION:
What are these huge itchy bumps on my skin?
I have been waking up with huge, red, itchy bumps on all different parts of my body for the last couple months. They itch and burn and swell for about 3 or four days. Then, they just turn into these small little bumps on my skin. I get them on my legs, arms, and face so far. I have no idea what they are, but it really worries me. Any ideas?
I highly doubt they are bedbugs, I rarely sleep in my bed. I usually sleep on the couch, or the chair, or the floor. Wherever I happen to be when I get tired, lol. I even stayed over at a neighbors house to watch her kids and got them when I woke there.

    • ANSWER:
      yes, bed bugs!
they live in beds, chairs, couches, rugs.

it could be your dryer softerner sheets if you use them. try not using them for a week or so. also my son developed a rash like that and his doctor told him it could be a sign of pre diabetes, he is over weight.it could be an alergic reaction to maybe some sort of cream. also have you changed hair shampoo or conditioner lately? if you wash your hair first and then wash your body last, you can rinse the shampoo or conditioner off your body as it sloughs off on to your body while you are in the shower. try these things!

Dyshidrosis. (cheiropomphylox) Google images and dermnet.nz ...... does it look like this?
It is allergy to a dermatophyte, which is any kind of skin loving bug. mold, yeast, bacteria, virus, parasite, pollen. It could be anywhere on your body. The rash on the hands(or feet) is just a red flag. Take anti-histamines for immediate relief. Fexofenadine 180mg, and 12 hours later 60mg, then every 12 hours 60mg. This is not the cure. But it will stop the itching. Go to dyshidrosis@yahoogroups for treatments and information.

People who have eczema are 'atopic'. Very sensitive to all kinds of irritants. This is your immune system over-reacting to the presence of a dermatophyte. The most common dermatophyte is Candida in it's dimorphic, mycelial form in the intestines.
The cure is really simple, but I very much doubt you can get your doctor to prescribe it for you.
You need a two week course of NYSTATIN by drops, 4 million units daily. then a 2 week break, then repeat. If this does not work (and I would bet the cost of your doctor visit it does.) you need a drug called Toctino, to be taken for 90 days. This is expensive, you will find a cheaper way on the links at Dyshidrosis@yahoogroups.com. (You may find your eczema goes away too. I am betting you are 14/15.)
am studying this condition, also called the 'Id reaction". Can I ask you to tell your dermatologist to refer to page 651, chapter 17 in the 1st volume of the Textbook of Dermatology by Rook, Wilkingson and Ebling.?

    • ANSWER:
Well, its possible you may have hand, foot, and mouth disease.
It's not normal that people over the ages of ten get it, but it does happen.
Basically you get a rash everywhere that then turn into blisters. These normally occur on the palms, bottom of feet, top of feet and hands, and inside the mouth. It can also spread on your legs and arms, as well as up your back, on your stomach, and in other.. regions.
Sadly, there is nothing you can do for it.

No, but you have a dermatophyte that just loves May weather. Probly thrives on moist air too.
Fexo is the best for skin rashes. I would ask if you burnt that arm or spilt hot water over it when you were little.

  28. QUESTION:
What are these itchy bumps on my skin?
For the last few weeks, itchy, small bumps have been appearing on my skin. They each last a day or two, and then they disappear, and then others pop up elsewhere. Although a few have been reddish, some don't have color. It started on my butt, but my doctor said I didn't have genital herpes, and since my appointment, I've gotten about a dozen or so more. I have a few on my arms, I've had a couple on my torso, and some on my legs and butt. I don't consume anything regularly enough to be having a constant allergic reaction, and I've changed detergents and stuff, but it hasn't changed. I've had poison ivy before, and the bumps look like individual poison ivy bumps. I don't know what to do :( Please help me!

    • ANSWER:
Check around your home for bugs like bedbugs or fleas. Both bedbugs and fleas leave blackish droppings so look for those around your bed and your sofa. Think about where you were right before you got the bumps - someone else may have the bug problem.

You could also be having some contact dermatitis or some other skin issue. If I were you, I'd vacuum my bed, pillows, mattress, box spring, carpet and any other upholstery in your house to help get rid of any allergens. I would also wash all of the blankets and covers on your bed and throw your pillows in the dryer for a few minutes. My husband reacts to cat hair on his (and the cat's) favorite blanket by getting small itchy red bumps all over his back.

One more thought, have you been around any wood burning fireplaces? Or any dogs/cats that might have been running around outside through the bushes. You can get poison ivy from your friendly family pet and from cut firewood. See a dermatologist if none of the suggestions help. Use some cortisone cream to help with the itch - benedryl cream is also very good.

How fast does a steroid shot start working?
Around 10 this morning I went to the doctor b/c I've had these red itchy bumps going on for like 4 days on my chin, neck, arms, and back. He says it's an allergic reaction (I have no idea to what) and I'm given a steroid shot. Well it still itches like crazy! When will it stop???

    • ANSWER:
A steroid shot should begin working immediately. They also clear your system rather quickly, so the dr Should have had to follow-up the shot with either antihistimines (ie: tell you to take a benedryl, or zyrtec, or claritin. regularly for X number of days), or put you on a predesone dose-pack for a week or so.
You should contact your Dr again, and let him know the itching hasn't resolved. By now the steroid shot would have worked.

  33. QUESTION:
My 4 month old golden retriever has red itchy bumps under arms and scratches constantly. What is the cause?
He scratches and bites and no fleas are present only little red bumps and rash like symptoms under his arms, on his belly, and under his neck. I need answers this is not good. Is it a yeast infection or something else i don't know about?

    • ANSWER:
Take your pup to a vet, they are best at diagnosing and treating pet skin ailments. A yeast infection is possible because yeast does live in the moist areas but my guess is that this is unlikely. More likely it is fleas, mites, scabies or some other biting critter. Check the base of the tail for signs of fleas. The mites are too small to see so the vet will do a skin scrapping (painless) and look under a microscope. The good news is all these things are treatable. The bad news is that if you don't treat the dog, you may get them next.

i have itchy bumps all over my legs and arms?
it started as small flesh colored itchy bumps, and i thought it may be poison ivy, but i had some on my lower back and my mom said it was not. just a small rash. my legs and arms are randomly itchy and now i have red patches where its itchy on my legs. i need help figuring out what to do.
the itching starts most when im hot, mostly when i have my laptop on my lap,i dont know if its the heat or what.

    • ANSWER:
I am not a doctor, but there is a condition called miliaria or "prickly heat" which is a rash that appears because of plugged sweat glands in hot and humid conditions. It could be that. The treatment is just to avoid hot and sweaty conditions, wear breathable clothing, take cool showers, etc. and it should go away by itself. Of course it could be something else, so if it continues to bother you, see a doctor.

I recently cut myself pretty deep (through skin, and only a centimeter away from cutting through muscle) by accident on Thanksgiving. I had to get stitches, and they gave me a tetanus shot. The shot didn't hurt at first, but it was extremely painful for the following week. Now, I am developing small itchy bumps that turn to scars only on the arm that was cut, which was also the arm they gave me the tetanus shot in. In addition, I've been running a low-grade fever and have had some stomach issues (I won't be graphic). I am planning on going to the ER but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

    • ANSWER:
Probably a reaction from the shot. Get to the ER. I have had similar reactions to other shots but not to tetanus,

talk to the doctor who implanted it, because it may be an infection of some sort, it may not be serious so there may not even be a reason to panic. it could also be because there is a foreign object in your skin that your body isn't used to like a tattoo or a piercing.

  45. QUESTION:
What's the fastest way to get rid of poison ivy?
About two days ago, I must've come into contact with poison ivy, and now my entire foot and leg are covered in red, splotchy, itchy bumps. The bumps have spread a bit, and I've been using various scrubs and creams to reduce the itchy and the spreading of the urushiol oil, but I would like to know any other possible prescriptions or even home remedies that help to make the bumps and itching go away.

    • ANSWER:
Ohhh... I am VERY allergic to Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, and Poison Sumac, To make it stop itching... Im NOT kidding about his,,, You mix,, Baking Soda, Listerine, and Salt,,,, You mix that together, and it will maybe take a couple seconds or minutes, but it will kinda have like a little burn to it maybe, and it will stop itching, and on your arm or wherever you put it, there will be a white, hard kinda powder, and if you put it in the light it will shine lite glitter, DON'T rub the white stuff off, It helps it, keep it on there over night and then just wash it off with water,,, What you do is get a bowl of some sort, we use a container that had icing in it, it works pretty good, You put about 1 TBS of Baking Soda, and then pour the Listerine in the container in it, and just pour enough to cover all of the Baking Soda,, and then just add,,, about 1/2 TBS of salt, and mix till theres no more baking soda, then wash your arm with warm water and soap, any kinda of soap, then gently dry, and then pour and rub alcohol on it, and then on top of the alcohol put the baking soda, Listerine, and salt liquid,,,, Now when you put this back in the cabinet to keep till next time, the baking soda will settle to the bottom, and next time you use it, you will have to stir it, and make sure there is no more baking soda on the bottom, and stirred good, Then just add it. You can keep this stuff for a very long time, but when you run out, just make you some more!
      Hope It helps!
And if you keep rubbing alcohol on it it will dry it up, but if you already have it irritated and bleeding, it will hurt for like 10-20 seconds, but just blow on it, and then,, keep rubbing it on there and then it will dry it up.

How to prevent facial itching when stressed?
Whenever I get really stressed out, my chin gets itchy and red. Sometimes I get little hives on my chin or itchy bumps.
How can I prevent these? They're hard to cover up.

    • ANSWER:
People touch the face thousands of times a day, from scratching a nose to preventing blushing when lying or to slow down bloodstream. Just by reading this and thinking about scratching the side of the face, you already might just want to lift your arm and scratch something.
People would stop touching themselves the moment they have something applied on their face, like cosmetics, knowing that there is a layer of crème or something else that is applied on the face, prevents them from touching it.

My eye twitches and itches because of an allergy during the summer, i have to stress and fight myself to prevent from scratching it. its a real pain, when I win every battle and dont scratch it. I'm feeling really good about myself
