Natural Allergy Solutions

Despite the common belief about Inflammation being a very bad thing, it is in fact a natural response of our body to the activity of pathogens. If there are any cells that the body believes to pose danger, it will respond by the typical inflammatory process characterized by higher temperature, increase in toxic radical levels and production of killer macrophage cells. However, the process itself may harm the body as well.

It is even theorized that the process of aging is caused by this defensive response of the body that is so effective for keeping us healthy while we are younger. As the body ages, it's harder for it to control the process of inflammation and it can become chronic and very hard to cease. It may be different from the wild skin rashes and acute pain associated with typical inflammation, but in essence it's the same process. If put simple, inflammation occurs when the body's own defensive mechanisms turn onto the body itself. Free radicals and cytokines start deteriorating the tissues of the body and it has nothing to respond with besides producing more of these agents that are sought to remove pathogens but become pathogens themselves. So it all turns into a cycle that harms the affected tissues and organs.

Any part of the body could be affected by this effects and it is the main cause for degenerative health conditions such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes and many others. In this perspective, being healthy is a matter of the delicate balance between positive and negative processes that may take place in our body. This balance, is surprising highly dependent on the level of insulin in the bloodstream. When there's too little insulin in the blood the sugar starts deteriorating the tissues and causes inflammation response. When there's too much insulin, it also triggers the production of natural inflammatory agents. And taking the abundance of sugar in the food an average American eats, it's not a big surprise to see so many people suffering from various inflammatory conditions. A natural respond to inflammation is the production of cortisol by the adrenaline glands. This hormone helps suppress the immune system that is overactive. Synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs like Prednisone are mimicking the work of cortisol and achieve the same effects when there's not much of this hormone in the body to stop inflammation naturally. And it's evident that the condition of the adrenaline glands is crucial for regulating the production of cortisol.

You can improve the ability of your body to overcome inflammation on its own by consuming specific natural substances. First of all, typical vitamin supplements can increase the level of antioxidants in your body that will eliminate the toxic radicals produced during inflammation. Keeping your diet free of junk food, saturated fats, sugar drinks and caffeine will also help minimize the risk of inflammation. If you don't want to take Prednisone on a regular basis, then you should include red meats, fish oil, vegetables, fruits and nuts to your diet and make them the basic food you eat.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Natural Allergy treatment what has worked for you?
It seems I am getting more and more seasonal allergies every year. My symptoms are getting to the point where no matter where I am, indoors or outdoors, I am getting dry coughing hacking attacks. Avoidance of my allergies is not an option anymore. My house is cleaned regularly, and we have air conditioning, so I have done what I can environmentally. I am trying also the netti pot which is not doing anything.

I have heard of allergy shots or taking raw honey, and I would like to know of any natural remedies or permanent solutions that anyone has tried.

    • ANSWER:
I'm the same way. I also get really bad allergy eye, like i have now. My whole left eye is swollen to the point where I can't see!

Natural Allergy treatment is hard. I'd consider going somewhere and get over the counter medicine. You can get most for 3-6 Dollars. Don't get brand names. Get ones that are similar to brand names. (It should say on the box what allergy treatment it's similar too.)

  2. QUESTION:
What should I do about my cat allergies?
I have mild cat allergies and a friend told me about a simple solution that didn't involve medication. I forgot what it was though. Does anyone have any natural remedies to allergies?

    • ANSWER:
Either get a shot from a doctor, or avoid cats.

  3. QUESTION:
What are the best Natural Alternative solutions for treating eczema?
I have been to a doctor today & he said I have eczema, which started after Christmas, there are so many possible factors, allergies etc. While I am ruling them out one by one I need to treat the eczema, I don't want to take anti-biotics or use steroid creams. I know a LOT about holistic & nutritional things, but I would like to know what the natural solutions are for treating eczema, I will be applying E45 Cream to all affected areas (arms, shoulders, neck) daily. I will be going back to the doctors in a week or two. Proper answers please, no "take drugs" comments, I want answers to the question I am asking, what are the natural alternatives?
Thanks for the replies so far, I eat VERY healthily, I know almost as much as Gillian McKeith, & believe in holistic lifestyle, I eat cooked rice & millet pasta, with plenty of cold-pressed hemp seed oil, tomatoes, herbs, take plenty of supplements, I also eat cooked Quinoa, & steamed vegetables with garlic & have had 2 colonics recently, (also removed hundreds of intestinal worms). I plan to try to slowly convert to raw foods. I think that the cause of this eczema could be allergies, or food related, I have been eliminating possible causes one by one & have found that heat starts me itching, but I started eating organic "quinoa & rice with garlic" snacks by Biona after christmas, I worked out that they contain about 6grams of salt in a bag (i would eat one bag a day, i know that 6g is the most you should at in a day but now I believe that this is the biggest cause of the itching, Salt. So I won't be eating these for a while to find out if the itching & scabs improve.
So for now, I would like to know what natural & holistic methods exist for helping to heal the scabbed skin & stop the itching (although if salt is the cause of the itching it should stop soon as I have stopped eating so much salt). I will also be drinking plenty of water to try to get more hydrated as I was dehydrated before. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try some of the cold pressed hemp oil on my skin, & I think perhaps the goats milk helping people is probably because of the high fat content, so I will continue pouring the hemp oil on my pasta & in soups. Keep the suggestions coming though, I appreciate them.

    • ANSWER:
The best way to cure your eczema is through your diet. You are what you eat, do you want to be a flaky pastry, or a crumbly bit of bread?
Cut out dairy, meat and wheat and eat raw living vegan foods. I am a raw food vegan, my husband and I eat 100% raw vegan foods. Our website is under construction at the moment but there is quite a lot of info, links and books on it already for you to see. www.purelyraw.com
OK, so you may not want to go raw overnight, so I'd advise at least to begin with cut out dairy, then meat and wheat.
I have been vegan for 10 years, during that time I have lapsed back into dairy a few times. Each time my skin has immediately become itchy and dry and ugly. Then after just 2 weeks with no dairy it is back to beautiful and comfortable again.
To explain briefly, eating cooked foods, meat and dairy make our blood acidic, this creates an acidic body. So when you sweat your sweat irritates the skin. When you start to clean your diet up you go into a more alkaline state and your sweat is no longer irritable to you. Our natural atate is alkaline. And disease free.
Eating cooked foods, meat and dairy dehydrates the body. It takes much fluid to digest these things, this takes away fluid from the skin and dries it out. Raw foods digest themselevs, using up none of your liquid, energy or digestive enzymes.
Cooking food destroys 80% of the nutrients, vitamins and all the enzymes.
Change your diet. Eating purely raw foods has brought me a level of happiness and health I never imagined possible. My husband and I work to help others achieve this too. Please have a look at our website, and then check out the links and see what raw food and veganism has done for thousands of others.Good Luck, feel free to email me at my website with any questions or if you just want more info. Good Luck, and don't take the steroids!!!

  4. QUESTION:
What is the best natural remedy for sinus infection? Why does sinus infection cause blood pressure to rise?
My daughter is 24 and had been taking allergy shots but has since lost her insurance and can no longer afford the shots. What can be done naturally

    • ANSWER:
The best way I've found is actually so simple it seems weird.
There is something called a Neti Pot that you can get in most drug stores or health food stores... it kind of looks like a small watering pot for plants. What you do is put a Saline solution (a 1% salt water solution... it's easy to make) in it, tip your head sideways over the sink, and pour the solution into one nostril so it can pour out the other.
It takes a few tries to get used to, but if you use it once a day, the salt water helps to clean and nourish your sinus cavities and actually helps to keep sinus problems away if it's used daily.
Like I said, it seems weird and threw me off when I first heard about it, but my mom and step dad use one with great benefits, my mom has MUCH less problems with her allergies now that she uses it, and they've even gotten some of their friends to use a Neti Pot with the same results.

As far as the blood pressure, that is odd. It's very possible that the inflammation from the infection pressed against some blood vessels, which could increase the pressure to push the blood through the smaller area. If it doesn't go back down soon, it would be a good idea to check with a doctor to be on the safe side.
Good luck and I hope I helped!

  5. QUESTION:
My boyfriend has really bad allergies, any ideas on how to decrease the chance of his allergies acting up?
Also, he has asthma. They kinda go hand in hand. When his allergies act up too much he begins to have a hard time breathing and his asthma kicks in a bit or he even has a bad asthma attack. Just some ideas or suggestions on reducing the chance, please! It breaks my heart to see him with a bad asthma attack. It's even scary at times.

    • ANSWER:
Asthma is characterized as a chronic inflammatory process.

People who take over the counter or doctor prescribed medicine for their allergy/ashtma relief are probably familiar with their side effects (i.e. fatigue, drowsiness, headache, etc. ) These medicines contain antihistamines property that inhibits inflammations and allergic reactions and suppress their symptoms.

A powerful antioxidant Isotonix OPC-3® offers a natural and safe alternative and regular users often report feeling delightfully energetic at the same time. This is because of the high content of free radical scavenging OPCs found in OPC-3.

Isotonix OPC-3® inhibits the release of histamine. Histamine is a key factor in the promotion of inflammation and allergies, and is associated with eruptive diseases of the skin, irritations of the nose and air passages, rheumatism and stomach ulcers. A common pharmaceutical approach to the control of inflammatory diseases involves the administration of antihistamines. But these drugs produce undesirable side effects. OPC-3, a natural antihistamine, acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy agent, without side effects.

Isotonix OPC-3® contains the most powerful bioflavonoids(OPC) currently known to research scientists today. They are Pycnogenol (pine bark extract), grape seed extract, red wine extract bilberry extract & citrus extract.

There are studies you can find on www.Pubmed.gov indicate that Pycnogenol may be a valuable nutraceutical in the management of chronic asthma.

Isotonix OPC-3® has been shown to provide a variety of health benefits including but not limited to combating free radicals, demonstrating anti-inflammatory activity, helping maintain healthy cholesterol levels, helping maintain joint flexibility, helping promote/support cardiovascular health, helping reduce mild menstrual cramping and abdominal pain, helping support visual health/visual acuity, etc.

The reason I recommend OPC-3 is because the Isotonix line it's the only oral supplements in the market with isotonic capability when mixing with certain amount of water. Any food or pills taken orally must be digested within our stomach and transported in an isotonic state before our body can absorb its nutrients, this process can take from 40 minutes to 4 hours.

This means that when we drink a supplement that’s isotonic, our stomach does not need to digest it, so that it can enter our small intestines for absorption within minutes. With Isotonix products, little nutritive value is lost, making the absorption of nutrients highly efficient while delivering maximum results.

This property is important because when allergy symptoms are acting up, an immediately solution is highly desirable.

  6. QUESTION:
Is it natural to break out from proactive?
Hey! I have really bad acne so I decided to start using proactive.. The first night.. It was okay. The second night, I felt a little bit of itchiness but I used it one last time (why idk) after the third time use, i woke up & my face was COMPLETELY broke out! I hate bumps in places i didn't even put any solution in! These bumps are SUPER itchy! So itchy to the point where you can't do anything but scratch. I've even woken up out of my sleep a couple of times because it itch so bad. Is this supposed to do this? Or am i allergic? I just to some benedryl so hopefully that helps the itch. But is there any quick remedies to get rid of the bumps?

    • ANSWER:
Lord heavens! Sounds like u are totally allergic!! Don't re use it. I'm sure it says on the warning label *if rash redness or itchiness occurs stop use.*. Aw that sucks. Bc I too suffer from acne and proactive is a good product. If may be that You are allergic to something in the proactive. Like that peroxide or maybe ur only allergic to the toner and not the wash. Idk. But if u broke out worse and - also In places that u didnt use the proactive that says that it is in your system-and ur body's basically rejecting it. Which allergic reactions can get so bad that it could cause u to have a stroke or lungs swell up. So luckily your reaction was not so bad.
I don't think it's normal for it to happen with the product but at the same time- certain ppl are just allergic to certain things. So it is commen. My advice? Stop use. Def take some benedryl or other allergy type med. if it doesn't go away soon- u can even call ur Docter and he will give u some steroid lotion or pills that will basically hurry the healing process up. I'm so sorry! Sounds awful! Don't ITCH! It hurts I know. But itching causes scars! Even use like bug bite creams or hydrochlorizon cream (anti itching cream) any help the itching.

  7. QUESTION:
What kind of allergy tests do doctors do?
My son gets eczema really bad when we gave him regular formula, so we switched to soy and he's been fine since. We assumed he was allergic to dairy, but we got him tested for allergies and it said he wasn't allergic to milk. I tried to give him some whole milk recently and he broke out again with eczema. Furthermore, the test said he had a tiny bit of a soybean allergy. Does this make sense to anyone else?

    • ANSWER:
sure, your child has eczema and you're figuring out the triggers. Sounds like he's young, maybe less than 1 year old? Our child is allergic to cows milk. You might try using goats milk instead.

Just in case the eczema gets much worse and you can't find a solution, I'll post what worked for our child. What worked for our child to stop the itch in seconds and heal the inflammation is Salcura Dermaspray Gentle. It's #1 in Britain, over the counter, all natural ingredients, no mess whatsoever. It is about 10 times better than anything else we tried on our child to stop the itch and heal his inflamed skin.

  8. QUESTION:
Help me with my allergy symptoms and medication?
I have an allergy to my cat that randomly flared up when the cat started shedding, my GF had some Loratadine and it helps some but i have a stuffy nose every morning and it doesn't seem to help much. Is this the right medication? I know of claritan but not sure. The only thing that seems to help my nose is Afrin spray and i am perfectly fine but it doesn't last as long as i would like it to. It seems my nose is the only issue and when i wake up its entirely closed. Please advise.

    • ANSWER:
As a person with allergies as well, I would use Zyrtec 24 hour or Claritin 24 hour.
Afrin is actually addictive and not that good for you if used long term.

To clear out your airways in the morning, use a simple saline solution (salt water).
You can buy some in almost any store with a pharmacy. Arm & Hammer makes some in a spray bottle that looks like a small aerosol can and you spray it up your nose. It works just as well, if not better, and is non addictive and natural.

If Zyrtec or Claritin don't seem to be working for you, see your doctor and he may prescribe you something like Singular, which is 3 dollars or so for a month supply and he or she can prescribe you for a few months.

You can also buy a ten day supply of Zyrtec D or Claritin D, which is a allergy decongestant, but you have to be 18 to buy it and take the card (by the other Zyrtec and Claritin) to the pharmacy window to get it. (I have found the off-brand generic works just as well if they are too expensive).

      Good luck!
      Meeeyow :)

  9. QUESTION:
Is there any proof that chemical based housed cleaning supplies cause allergy problems?
My allergies are always irritated, and I am starting to look at more natural solutions for everyday living in hopes of solving the problem. Does anyone have some successful and "green" recipes for home cleaning supplies?

    • ANSWER:
Terri: Good for You! Household cleansers are loaded with toxins. Many of them contain formaldehyde (so do lots of your personal care items like shampoo too!!!).
I will give you a link to an article about the dangers of formaldehyde and you will certainly start reading labels. I will also give you a link to some stuff that I use to clean my house. It is made from soy. Turns out that soy is an awesome cleaner (works really well) and I like the fact that soy is a renewable resource unlike the ones made from petrochemicals. The added bonus is that they don't have those awful smells!

What food should I feed my beagle who has food allergies?
She has hot spots and hair loss around her butt area and on her tail. She scratches excessively. We are treating her hot spots and I am trying to find a food that is suitable to feed her to get rid of the food allergies.

I know Wellness is a good food, but are there other options out there (without a RX for the food) that will be just as good?

    • ANSWER:
I use California Natural for my dog with food allergies-it has the least amount of ingredients of any dry food on the market (meaning less to be allergic to) and it's made by a very responsible company and of good quality. A few others you may want to consider are Natural Balance Limited Ingredient and Wellness Simple Food Solutions. Taste of the Wild, Pinnacle, and Evangers are a few others that are good for some dogs with allergy (depending on what the allergy is to), but California Natural would be my first choice.

  14. QUESTION:
How long can it take a rash due to allergic reactions to cats to heal?
My kid's doctor refuses to run allergy tests. He broke out in a blistery rash that looks like poison ivy, and it lasted a month. We suspected he might be allergic to cats, and was exposed about 12 hours before breaking out, and was around them for 5 days and then once we came home it took a month for him to totally heal despite being on prednisone. Can it take up to a month for a child with eczema to heal from an allergic skin reaction to animals?

    • ANSWER:
Sure it can take up to a month, it can take a lot longer if you do nothing about it. Maybe you should change your doctor too. I would also look here www.natural-cure-for-eczema.org for a solution to your eczema problem.

      Good luck

  15. QUESTION:
What are the best wheat free dry food brands and where can I get them?
My dog is Wheat free and I don't think that her current dry food is going well for her. Also, what treats are wheat free. I'm rather new to this allergy thing. I feel bad when I can't reward her for being good (for a Jack Russell). What sort of thing can I give her thats not like pigs ears or bones?

    • ANSWER:
Take a look at this site, it rates various foods, gives a review on each food giving pros and cons(click on the far right side across from the food name), provides a list of the ingredients, Most of the wheat foods I believe are 3 stars and greater, the 6 star foods are the ones that are grain free foods.

THe most common food allergens are corn, wheat and soy, again most of the foods that are 3 stars and up will have any of those ingredtents

      http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/index.php

But if you are stilll having troubles , it is usually recommended that you try a limited ingredient diet example has only one source of meat and one grain,(many pets who have food alergies can be allergic to multiple ingredients). as it makes it easier to rule what she may be allergic to, example some dogs are allergic to certain types of meat or certain types of grain, so at first you may want to try a food with just chicken are rice, if still having a problem you could try a lamb a rice formula, if all goes well than you know chicken is one of the problem ingredients, if not the you can try a fish and potato formula, that way you are eliminating the rice plus trying a different meat source. Nailing down allergies can be tough, as it can mean sometimes a lot of food trial as some dogs will have multiple food allergies Symptoms of possible allergies is itchy skin and re-occuring ear problems.

If the dog is vomiting bile or experiencing soft stool that could be a sign or a food intolerance, the difference between an allergy and an intolerance is the symptoms,

As for possible food and treat suggestions
Canidae makes a couple one meat protein one grain foods
they also lamb and rice biscuits
      http://www.canidae.com

Innova EVO does have multiple meat formula but use potatoes instead of grains they have 2 foods formula( ared meant and white meat formulas) as well as grain free treats made with white meats

      http://www.naturapet.com/brands/evo.asp

California Naturals has a lamb and rice formula food and treat they also have a Herring and sweet potato food

      http://www.naturapet.com/brands/california-natural.asp

Wellness also make allergy foods called simple food solutions that come in duck or venison formulas they also have a treat called Pure Rewards that is grain fee meant for pets with allergies http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/wellness/dog_wellness_simple_food_solutions_index.html, and also have wheat free treats

If you are feeding a food with wheat and corn, the prices of the foods without will be a fair bit higher often, but because they have less fillers your feeding portions are smaller, especially when you get into grain free foods For example if I fed one of the cheapest foods I would need about 8 cups a day for my 84 dog but I feed the Innova EVO RM and because he is a serious couch potato he eats 1 1/2 cups a day so the difference in the amount I need to feed helps to offset the cost as the bag of food lasts longer

I suffer from allergies and currently I have a sore throat because of humidity. Any natural solutions?

Go to a natural foods store, or herbal/homeopathic supplier and ask about a Neti Pot, also called a "Nose Bidet".
It's a small container designed to help you flush out your sinuses with warm water or a saline solution. I haven't had the chance to try myself, but I've had people tell me it does wonders for helping with allergies and things like sore throats that develop from them. Good luck.

There is a wonderful medicine in the Philippines called Lagundi, or Chaste Tree. It is very powerful for rhinitis as well as other viral or allergy inspired respiratory problems. The other herb referred to in the preceding message is called Sacred Basil in English, and is also good for your problem. There are herbal remedies here that contain both of these powerful herbal solutions. If you drop me a line, I can fill you in on how to get them.

  19. QUESTION:
What is good to help me out with my allergies?
I have horrible allergies. I used to take Allegra before it became available over the counter. I bought it and it doesn't work for me. I've tried Zertex, Claritin, ect. Any recommendations? I am open to try Herbal/natural remedies. I just need some sort of relief. Thank you for your time.

    • ANSWER:
Why don't you try saline nasal rinse? This is one remedy that both Eastern and Western docs (like your allergist) will likely agree on. Basically all you’re doing is flushing out your sinuses with a saltwater solution, which can help wash away allergens and irritants. To do it, grab a Neti Pot or a large squeeze bottle, like the one made by NeilMed, and fill it with a premixed packet of saline solution (available at drugstores) or make your own solution.

  21. QUESTION:
How do you manage your partner / spouse who has a habit of snoring making loud noise?
Have you found any effective solution ? What do you think is a reason for his/her snoring ? Physical , psychological or both ? or something else ? Are you able to sleep well on background of such snoring ?

    • ANSWER:
The best thing for both of you is for him to try to correct his snoring. It's preventing both of you from getting a good nights sleep.

If you want to stop his snoring, it is important to consider the cause and severity of the snoring. Identifying the cause can help you choose the right cure.
It makes sense to try some simple non-invasive treatments first to see if they'll reduce or prevent his snoring.

Here are some of those non-invasive tips to stop the snoring:

      • sleep on your side - there's a higher change of snoring if you lie on your back, and sleeping on your stomach will kill your neck.
      • keep a regular sleep schedule - and make sure you get enough sleep, many people snore only when they are overly tired
      • elevate your head when sleeping - you can increase the angle of your bed by raising the head of the bed or use pillows to your upper body, don't just raise your head that'll put more pressure on your air way and have the opposite effect.
      • avoid alcohol and tranquillizers - they basically cause the muscles of your jaw and throat to relax, increasing your changes of snoring.
      • Treat your allergies - if your nose is stuffy it may force you to breathe through your mouth when sleeping. If your nose is stuffed I recommend using a netie pot, the are incredibly effective, natural and pretty cheap to.
      • buy a mouth guard - mouth guards will keep your jaw muscles from relaxing too much, and prevent snoring. It may not be too attractive to your significant other but it'll help you both get some sleep! :)
      • Lose weight - when you're heavier the extra weight puts pressure on your airway, causing snoring.
      • if you smoke try to stop - smoking damages your respiratory system, which doesn't help in the snoring department

Excessive snoring may also mean you have a more serious problem like sleep apnea.

If you wake up with a headache, are extremely tired during the day, don't feel refreshed when you wake up, have trouble concentrating or a very low attention span, or wake up during the night choking and gasping for breath you should probably see a doctor.

Mild snoring that isn't related to sleep apnea responds well to home remedies. Finding a cure for your snoring problem can result in an improved quality of life for you and your loved ones.

What kind of food will not give my labrador retriever allergic reactions?
My yellow lab has struggled with food allergies for months and months and we cannot seem to find a solution. We've tried Science Diet, Iams Natural, Blue Buffalo (all flavors) and NOTHING seems to work. He is constantly scratching his skin and the food makes his ears itch. Please help me find a food so he doesn't have to suffer.

    • ANSWER:
Single Worker gave you an excellent answer. Atopic allergies are more of a problem than food allergies. The only real answer is to find out what the dog is allergic to. Otherwise you will be spending a lot of money without identifying the problem.

  23. QUESTION:
Does anyone else have an allergy to bananas that began after having surgery?
After my hysterectomy in 1997, I could no longer eat bananas without coming down with a major case of flu-like symptoms. One hour after eating a banana I was overwhelmingly weak, nauseous and sore in my abdomen. The bout lasts about 3 hours, then I am fine. I have found I can eat banana bread, but not bananas in pudding or even baked banana cream pies. I love bananas and would like to be able to eat them again. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution for it. I would greatly appreciate some input. Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
Do you have a latex allergy? Remember allergies can come on at any age. The reason I am asking is because certain fruits such as bananas and kiwi have natural latex in them, thus causing problems for some one with a latex allergy. Check out the below web site it may explain better what can happen with such allergies. Hope I helped at least a little, Good Luck!!!!

  25. QUESTION:
Does elderberry concentrate really work for your health?
I have an add claiming it helps with allergies, diabetes, asthma, and many other health problems. Anybody have any experience or knowledge on this subject?
    Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
It has been proven that black elderberry is an effective remedy against colds and flu. Recent studies show that patients given black elderberry extract recovered very quickly, typically within two or three days, compared to almost a week for those not taking the remedy.

An added benefit is that patients do not suffer the side effects of traditional cold and flu remedies, which can often make the user drowsy. Side-effects of the remedy are at a minimum, so it is considered safe for both adults and children. It is known that the Native Americans used it to treat fevers and symptoms of rheumatism.

The remedy can be used to bring on sweats, so fevers are quickly flushed out of the system. The high vitamin content and flavonoids make it a natural antioxidant, thus boosting the body’s immune system.

Other components include a natural anti-inflammatory, which can have a positive effect on aches and pains.

      Elderberry Tea
Elderberry tea is one of the most popular herbal teas available, and when it is used there are a number of benefits:

•Easing congestion in the airways when suffering from asthma and bronchitis.
•Encouraging the removal of toxins from the system, helping to keep the kidneys functioning properly.
•Encouraging recovery from diseases such as chicken pox and measles.
•Easing the pain associated with arthritis.
      •Soothing a sore throat.

      Elderberry Concentrate
Elderberry concentrate is the juice of the berry and like the berry itself contains large amounts of vitamins. Intake should be limited to one or two teaspoons each day with water. It is used to boost the immune system and is beneficial for those suffering from diseases such as cancer or AIDS to ease the side effects of conventional medication.

      Other benefits include:

      •Reducing cholesterol levels
      •Maintaining a healthy digestive system
•Keeping the skin clear of blemishes

An elderberry tincture is available from health food shops, consisting of black elderberry extract in an alcohol solution. The alcohol preserves the tincture so it can be stored for some time. A simple elderberry tincture can be made at home by simply making a strong elderberry tea, though this has no preservatives and will need to be used quickly.

Raw berries can be eaten, but the seeds have a toxic effect on the system. This is removed when they are cooked. All the green parts of the plant are poisonous and should never be eaten.

      Side Effects
Side effects are rare, but should the user suffer any unexpected symptoms then a doctor should be consulted. The very young and pregnant and nursing women are advised to avoid using black elderberry extracts and concentrates. Anyone with a serious liver or kidney disease should not use any black elderberry products.

  26. QUESTION:
How long will it take for the dark circle to go after taking medication?
I have allergies, I recently started taking medicine for them, before taking the medicines (I didn't take any medication for about 6 months), I developed dark circles, now I have started taking medicine (from yesterday night), how long will it take for the dark circle to go?

    • ANSWER:
Medications are drugs! Medications are chemical poisons! They kill instead of heal! Medications down the road causes more symptoms to occur! Solution: stop taking medication prescription or non-prescription drugs! Second: stand under the sun. Sun is a natural healer! Notice that the plants and animals never get sick in the wild, yet when animals are caged up, they get sick! Plants and Animals do not put on lotions, sunscreens, cologne, perfume, deodorants, foot powder, hairsprays, dyes, gels. These are chemical poisons! Stand under the sun! Also put on hydrogen peroxide on area! Hydrogen peroxide is made up of extra water and extra air! Bacteria cannot live in a clean area where pure air is! Do it! I did! I stll do!

  27. QUESTION:
Any ideas on what causes dark circles under the eyes, and any remedies?
Dark circles under the eyes are totally unattractive. Any solutions other than "cover ups" ? Do you know what causes this?

    • ANSWER:
There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.
      http://www.mydarkcirclesblog.com/2006/11/27/causes-of-dark-circles/

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

  28. QUESTION:
What are some low cost, natural remedies for people who suffer sinus and allergies this time of year?
Im tired of spending hundreds of dollars on pharmacy and GP suggested medications for sinus and allergies. There must be a better, cheaper solution. Help!

    • ANSWER:
I have seasonal allergies and I use a Saline nose spray from CVS. It's pretty much salt water, and it completely flushes out your sinuses and gets rid of all the pollen that builds up and causes you to get colds, sinus infections, sore throats, etc. It's only a few dollars, you don't need a prescription, and if you use it once a day you'll get immediate results. Hope that helps! My doctor reccomended it and it works wonders for me.

  29. QUESTION:
Anyone know of any Solutions to eyelashes falling out?
Ever since I've been using heavy mascara my eyelashes have been falling out. I stopped putting heavy mascara, but I need to a solution! I used to have thick eyelashes, now i have few and thin ones. Is there any type of cream or solution I can apply to help stimulate the growth of eyelashes or strengthen them?

    • ANSWER:
A lot of what happens is an allergy problem. It happens a lot with heavy and waterproof mascara because it drys your lashes and that makes them really fragile. I have been there and something that worked really well for me was clear mascara. It is hypoallergenic and it replenishes nutrients/moisture back into your lashes. It is about .50 and it is hypoallergenic. I use Covergirl Professional Natural Lash Mascara. It works really well, and it doesn't harm your eyes. It also does a really good job of curling your eyelashes and keeping them stiff. I don't know how it does it, but it does!

  30. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of a Natural remedy for dogs with inhalant allergies or human medicine that is safe?
If we know that Benadryl is ok to give a dog is there any other medications that do not have the "sleepy" side effect, my hound/sheppard has inhalant allergies and I have been searching for Natural remedies for her or even human medicine that will help with the itchy paws, watery eyes and reverse sneezing.

    • ANSWER:
How long do you want to medicate this dog before you decide to get down to the CAUSE and not just the symptoms? Are there grains in this cats food, like corn, wheat, soy, glutens? They cause massive allergies in dogs and cats. Cats seem to be even more sensitive to grains than dogs. Since most vets know almost NOTHING about pet nutrition, they probably won't be much help. If they sell food in their clinic, like Science Diet and such, then they're getting kick-backs and could care less that it makes your pet sick. It's more about money. Think about it, if our pets are well, their paycheck isn't as big.

While getting your cat on a GRAIN FREE diet may not solve all of the symptoms, it's at least a step in the right direction and a place to start.

Cats don't drink a lot of water. When this becomes an issue and the kidneys are compromised and so is the urinary tract, is when cats are fed mostly dry food. Cats DO NOT drink enough water to hydrate the dry kibble in their digestive tract and ALSO keep their organs and vital systems healthy and properly flushed. As a consequence, their urine becomes very concentrated and THEN, there goes the urinary tract and excess protein buildup in the kidney's.

What is the solution to this far too rampant problem? Wild cats get most of their water from the wild animals they eat and the occasional water they drink. Cats on dry kibble for extended periods of time can NOT stay properly hydrated. They should be fed a high quality canned cat food at LEAST every other day. The dry kibble should only be a side dish.

The other issue for cats on commercial foods is the high amount of grains their systems are being assaulted with. Cats are CARNIVORES. They are NOT omnivores, yet Friskies and all like crap companies want us to believe they've outsmarted mother nature. We may have domesticated dogs and cats, but we have NOT changed their digestive systems. So, we humans and commercial pet food suppliers need to get over themselves. We are killing our pets and the pet food giants could care less. They're just raking in the dough. So are the vets that have certain brands of food in their clinics. I personally think that it's against a vets hypocratic oath to do no harm. 99% of vets DO NOT study pet nutrition, so don't expect them to steer you in the right direction when it comes to feeding your pet properly.

The first thing that we pet owning consumers need to do is learn to PROPERLY read food labels so that we KNOW what we're doing to our pets. Your cat already has health issues so you need to find a GRAIN FREE, no byproducts, no artificial preservatives (like ethoxyquin) or artificial colors. ANY and ALL foods that you can purchase in the grocery store, WalMart, and the majority of brands in Petco/Petsmart are ABSOLUTE CRAP. That includes Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet and the like are ABSOLUTE CRAP and will shorten the life span of your pets!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some links that will be very helpful for you in getting your pet back to a healthier state. High quality food is only ONE of the areas that can reduce the damage to your cats kidneys and you should research so that you address ALL of the angles toward restoring your cat's health. Just changing their food is not a panacea, but it's a step in the right direction, and you've gotta start somewhere.

Check the ingredients in the different foods on this site and compare them with what you're currently feeding.

  31. QUESTION:
Who would you call to have your home checked for mold?
I've had problems with allergies and tried different medications that don't seem to work completely. Mainly i have a lot of throat congestion. I've heard that mold can be the cause. The problem started shortly after i moved into this home.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi JewelAir

Here are some ideas on how to heal the issue. You also need to learn about cleansing the body of toxins by doing a colon and liver cleanse to heal for long term.

      Cause of Allergies
Overall, the underlying causes of allergy and sensitivity are dietary and lifestyle factors specifically titled as imbalanced immune function, barrier function default (such as "leaky gut" syndrome), and toxic overload. Each of these are, in varying degrees, responsible for the development and continuation of allergy and sensitivity.

Herbal Medicine: There are a variety of herbs that offer relief from allergies, such as goldenseal, red sage, and goldenrod. To reduce mucus, try astringents such as yarrow and myrrh (Commiphora myrrha). These help to contract inflamed tissues and reduce secretions and discharges. To strengthen immune response use echinacea, astragalus root, goldenseal root, and Pfaffia paniculata (suma or Brazilian ginseng). These herbs can be effective and safe for treating weakened immune systems.
Eating raw Garlic and Onions will provide relief as well. The more you use the faster the relief will come.

Cayenne pepper is a favorite herb among those treating allergy patients. The active ingredient is a strong anti-inflammatory, and it is recommend to allergy suffers, including asthma patients, as a simple and effective treatment. Sprinkling liberal amounts of the pepper on meals for a few days can provide relief. Or better yet eat them raw and sweat for a few minutes. Watch your sinus clear up quickly.

Although herbal remedies have shown excellent results in reducing allergy/sensitivity symptoms, using herbs to treat allergies involves an individual approach. Some particularly effective anti-inflammatory herbs are stinging nettle, Ginkgo biloba, and licorice. Chinese skullcap, ephedra, and feverfew are others to consider for treating allergy symptoms. Patients whose conditions are severe should consult with a trained herbalist or naturopath.

A major symptom of allergies is gastrointestinal upset, including bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea. Demulcent herbs can alleviate these symptoms (demulcent is a term used by herbalists to describe an herb that has a protective effect on the mucous membranes by minimizing irritation). The most commonly used herbs are marshmallow, slippery elm bark, cabbage juice, okra, fenugreek, and aloe vera.

Homeopathy: Homeopathy has widespread applications for the treatment of allergies. In many situations, minute diluted doses of the substance a person is allergic to can be prepared as a homeopathic solution that triggers the body`s natural ability to heal itself.

Homeopathic remedies are best prescribed by a competent homeopath. Self-diagnosis is discouraged due to the variety of factors that must be considered before the appropriate treatment is selected. However, the following remedies can be helpful: Ferrum phos, lycopodium, and silica.

Juice Therapy: A juice fast of organic vegetable juices for 2-3 weeks can help detoxify the body, thus improving its ability to cope with allergies. Two useful juice combinations for this purpose are beet, carrot, and cucumber; and carrot and celery. For added benefit, add a small piece of ginger root to either juice combination.

      Best of health to you

  35. QUESTION:
What is the absolute best way to prevent a sinus infection?
I live in NY with very good radiator steam heating but I'm not able to turn it on and off at will. But for the last 6 years I've gotten a sinus infection even though I use a humidifier, saline solution mist, saline gel, I drink a lot of water and I take vitamins, nothing works. My Dr. said I have a slight deviated septum, but not enough to merit an operation. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Rufus

Here is some techniques to heal your condition.

      Causes of Sinusitis

Over the course of the last few decades, there has been an increase in the incidence of sinusitis in the U.S. and other industrialized nations that is directly related to a corresponding increase in air pollution and unhealthy indoor air, making unhealthy air and air pollution the two main factors of sinusitis. Other environmental causes of sinusitis include cold and flu viruses, bacterial and fungal infections, excessively cold or dry air, cigarette smoking, and regular exposure to secondhand smoke.

Sinusitis can also be caused or exacerbated by food allergies and sensitivities, dental and gum disease, stress, lowered immunity, structural problems within the nasal cavities (such as a deviated septum), nasal cysts and/or polyps, and unresolved emotions, especially anger. Candiasis (systemic yeast overgrowth) and the overuse of pharmaceutical drugs, especially antibiotics, are two other common causes of sinusitis.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Natural Cures
Aromatherapy: Inhaling the steamed vapors of the essential oils camphor, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, pine, or tea tree can help improve breathing and aid in fighting infection.

Diet:If you suffer from sinusitis, you need to be screened for food allergies and sensitivities, and then avoid eating those foods that you are allergic or sensitive to. In addition, avoid all sugar and sugar products, wheat and wheat byproducts, soy products, soft drinks, commercially processed foods, and all foods containing artificial ingredients, such as additives, colorings, flavorings, and preservatives (such as BHA, BHT, sodium nitrite, sulfites, saccharin, aspartame, and cyclamates). Also minimize your intake of milk and dairy products, and coffee and other caffeine products, as well as red meat, salt, refined carbohydrates (white breads, pastries, commercial pastas), corn, chocolate, and unhealthy fats (hydrogenated or trans fats).

Drink plenty of pure, filtered water (at least eight ounces every two hours; or for best results, add fresh squeezed lemon juice and a dash of cayenne pepper) and fresh squeezed, organic vegetable juices throughout the day, as well as hot broths and soups. Diluted organic pear juice can also be helpful, in order to loosen up lung congestion. Also emphasize organic, whole foods, especially plenty of fresh, raw organic fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, organic, free-range meats and poultry, and wild-caught fish. Garlic, cayenne pepper, chili peppers, horseradish, and onions should be eaten regularly, due to their powerful health benefits for the lungs and respiratory system. Organic, extra virgin olive oil should also be used liberally.

According to leading naturopathic physician and researcher Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., President Emeritus of Bastyr University, a vegan diet can significantly improve symptoms of most respiratory conditions, including pneumonia. Such a diet involves eliminating all animal products, as well as fish, eggs, milk, and all other dairy products. Grains should also be avoided, or eaten in minimal amounts. Dr. Pizzorno advises limiting your fluid intake to pure, filtered water (avoid chlorinated, fluoridated tap water), and emphasize plenty of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, especially romaine lettuce, carrots, beets, onions, celery, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, radishes, Jerusalem artichokes, beans (except soy and green peas), blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cloudberries, black currants, gooseberries, plums, and pears. Apples and citrus fruits (except lemon) are not recommended, however.

Herbs: Useful herbs for treating and preventing sinusitis include Echinacea, elder flowers, ephedra, eyebright, garlic, goldenrod, goldenseal, horseradish, Oregon grape, pokeroots, purple cornflower, stinging nettle, wild indigo, and yarrow.

      Homeopathy:

Arsenicum album – for nasal discharge that is burning, thin, and watery, which becomes worse following exposure to open air, and/or is accompanied by chills, anxiety, and a desire for warm drinks

Kalium bichromium – to relieve nasal congestion and postnasal drip when accompanied by feeling of pressure in the nose and impaired smell

Mercurius iodatus – for sinusitis accompanied by raw or ulcerated nostrils and symptoms that are made worse at night, exacerbated by perspiration, and/or include yellowish-green nasal discharge with flecks of blood

Nux vomica – for sinusitis accompanied by frontal headaches, increased nasal congestion at night, and sensitivities to cold, light, and noise

Silicea – for sinusitis accompanied by dry, hard, easily bleeding crusts in the nose, loss of smell, pain when the bones of the nose are touched

Euphorbium compositum – used as a nasal spray, can also be effective for sinusitis, especially chronic sinusitis

      Best of health to you

      Cheers

  36. QUESTION:
How can we save our house plants? They are dying from a white fungus which is also causing allergy problems.?
My housemate replanted one plant, but in just a few days, the fungus returned. What can we do to save the plants? and to minimize our allergies?

    • ANSWER:
      They likely have mealy bug.

Take them outside (Or in the shower if it's cold there)and spray with a weak solution of dish detergent. Let stand about 5 minutes. Cover the dirt with a towel, and rinse off..
in an hour or so, and as well, the next day, until you see no more white matter. The soap suffocates the bug, but some will survive. That's why a few treatments are required. Don't leave the soap on to dry.

You can use this as a natural insecticide outside, as well, and as well, rinse off after 5 minutes or so. Repeat as necessary.

      Hope this helps.

  37. QUESTION:
How to cure an ear infection in a Boston Terrier?
I have to clean his ear daily. He only has it in one ear - thank goodness. He has a discharge that smells. His vet says it is not yeast, but antibiotics have not helped it yet. I clean it with epi-otic and apply tres derm after. He has been on Clavamox and one other antibiotic. He is currently taking Citirine in case it is an allergy.
Thank You. I am desperate for help.
    Thank You.

    • ANSWER:
Actually, antibiotics often cause yeast infections. The reason you get a yeast infection after using antibiotics is because antibiotics kill all bacteria in the body, both the bacteria (the ones that you took antibiotics to get rid of) and the good bacteria (the ones that help your body fight off yeast infections). As a result the yeast is left to grow without any good bacteria to ward it off. Many people take OTC creams like monistat to treat the yeast infection, but often times that only temporarily fix the problem. More often than not you'll just end up with a reoccuring yeast infection. The best way to stop it permanently is to re-establish your body's balance of good bacteria and yeast.

Personally I think the best approach is the natural way. Basically the reason you have a yeast infection is because there's an imbalance in your body. A healthy person has a balance between the yeast in their body and the good bacteria in their body.

Too much yeast, you have a yeast infection. Too much bacteria, you have a bacterial infection.

So, when you have a yeast infection you essentially have too much yeast in your body. The natural way to treat it and bring back that balance is to starve the yeast and introduce more good bacteria into your body.

Oh and BTW - That's why you often get relief from using the over the counter meds temporarily, and then the yeast infection comes back. The creams aren't changing the source of the problem. They are just killing the yeast they come in contact with, and not balancing the yeast/bacteria in your body and actually sometimes end up making things a lot worse.

Oh BTW2 - That's also why many times you'll get a yeast infection after using antibiotics. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your body, the good and the bad. When that happens the balance between the yeast and good bacteria is off once again and you get a yeast infection.

Things you can add to your diet (to help promote good bacteria) are live yogurt cultures (or take Acidophilus), plenty of water, fresh vegetables, lots of protein rich foods, whey protein, raw garlic, nuts, seeds, oils, millet, rice and oat brans.

Things you should remove from your diet (to starve the yeast) are all sodas, sugars, fruit, fermented foods, foods containing white flour, alcohol (especially beer), antacids and any product that has yeast or mold.

You can change your diet in conjunction with using the creams that you've been using and that will speed up the recovery significantly. But what I would also recommend is to use a homeopathic solution instead. I always feel if there's a natural way to do something, then it's best to avoid the chemicals. I would look for an natural product, that can be taken orally to promote re-growth of the good bacteria in your body.

There are a few out there, I think they are probably all pretty good. One that I have used and was very effective for me was is yeastrol.

If you're interesting in finding out more I've added a link that has some more info.

  38. QUESTION:
Is there a way for my dad to lessen his allergies towards cats?
Hey guys I am moving and we are going to completely redo all of our furniture and stuff and make our home brand new. My dad considered getting a cat to welcome to the house, yet he is badly allergic to cats. Is there a certain breed of cat or some ways to stop or weaken his allergies? I am a big cat person and owning a cat will be awesome if there is a solution to our allergies than we can get the cat if we cannot stop his allergies or weaken them than we cannot get the cat. He doesn't want injections and would consider medicine so what can we do?

    • ANSWER:
You may find a hypoallergenic cat somewhere
There are species bred for this purpose.
Otherwise, You might want to do your research on
cats that do not shed at all, or not as much

Prescribed allergy medication is an option, but your dad
will have to have that every single day which might be a pain.
Non-prescription allergy medicine include Reactine, Claritin, etc.

Ive heard that prolonged exposure can cure allergies.
Allergies happen when your body reacts to harmless
things, and if you are exposed to it, your body may develop natural immunity.

      Hope that helped.!

  40. QUESTION:
can having allergies lead to getting an autoimmune disease?
I have mild allergies to a lot of things mainly cats. My mother has allergies and just diagnosed with MS. Father has bad food allergies and diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Laura J

  41. QUESTION:
How do you schedule a deviated septum surgery?
I went to the ear/nose/throat doctor because I have hearing loss (I'm only 23), and he said it was caused from pressure in my head and that the problem is with my nose. I tried what he gave me, saline solution and medicine, but it didn't make a difference. I can't even blow my nose, one side is completely blocked.

My mom had a deviated septum. I haven't been officially diagnosed with that but I can tell I do. I assume I need to be officially diagnosed with something before they prescribe the surgery? My doctor wasn't a good doctor but he's the only one in town. And so after they recommend it, will they send all the documents to the surgeon's place?

These headaches are killing me everyday >.> I guess I'm wondering the most cost-efficient course of action and the order these things should go in. I don't know how they diagnose things and etc and my nose is completely blocked, so I'm not sure how that affects the diagnosis.

Thanks a bunch for your answers! I really appreciate it cause I am desperate now.

    • ANSWER:
Cost efficiency for your blocked nose?

  42. QUESTION:
What is best natural solution/medicine for Allergies , Symptoms : nasal congestion.?
I am feeling frequent nasal congestion, doctor has told that it is due to allergies, please suggest natural treatment to beat Nasal congestion . I am afraid to take Levocetirizine due to its side effects .

    • ANSWER:
I have horrible allergies also and my doctor told me that the best way to help them is to keep my hair tied back when I am outside. This is because when you're outside, pollen is constantly in the air and lands in our hair, so if it's tied back it's not in our face and bothering you that much. He also said to shower as much as possible to remove the pollen from your hair and body. To help my allergies I take Allegra which really helps me and I also use a nasal spray when needed.

  43. QUESTION:
Is olive oil good to put on your eyelids?
My lower eyelids have gotten very dry and became wrinkly. I think it's due to allergies.

Anyways, I put olive oil and it has helped moisturize it. Should I keep putting it or buy some cream to put on it?

    • ANSWER:
Olive oil is the best & most natural solution for dry skin... but using it near your eye area is not a good idea. Using any sort of oil will seep into the skin and then your eyes, which may cause slight damage as you keep using it. You should probably consult a dermatologist to recommend you some good & safe moisturizers for the eye area. I don't think using Vaseline would do you any harm though, so you could give that a try.

Another thing is to try to constantly avoid what causes these allergies. Also, if you wear any sort of eye makeup that could also be the cause of dry eyelids. If you do, I suggest you stopping wearing it for a while.

  45. QUESTION:
Natural vegetation is usually quite different from plants that people cultivate for food or for use in indust?
Natural vegetation is usually quite different from plants that people cultivate for food or for use in indust?
    industry. Explain the differences

    • ANSWER:
Native vegetation refers to grasses, wildflowers, and other plant life that grows naturally in a certain region and climate, as opposed to those that are forced to exist where they don't belong. These plants are born to be wild.

Cultivating and encouraging native vegetation is an eco-friendly move; it doesn't require the watering, fertilizers, or pesticides that non-native plants do, so it's better for the environment. Native vegetation is also good for native wildlife.

On the other hand, Genetically modified (GM) foods are made from plants that have been given specific traits through genetic engineering, unlike plants developed through the conventional genetic modification of selective breeding or plant breeding.

Some authorities think that it is not a good idea for some GM foods not to be labeled, because in some cases, that has led to allergies.

Some authorities consider genetically engineered crops to be a subset of genetically modified crops, as conventionally bred crops undergo genetic modification and may pose unintended health consequences.

GM foods were first put on the market in the early 1990s. Typically, genetically modified foods are plant products: soybean, corn, canola, and cotton seed oil.

The first commercially grown genetically modified whole food crop was the tomato puree called FlavrSavr, which was made more resistant to rotting by Californian company Calgene. Calgene was allowed to release it in 1994 without any special labeling. It was welcomed by consumers who purchased the fruit at two to five times the price of regular tomatoes. However, production problems and competition from a conventionally bred, longer shelf-life variety prevented the product from becoming profitable.

Several studies have found that genetically modified varieties of plants do not produce higher yields than normal plants.

A study from Berkeley says that despite claims from the biotech industry and academic researches, there is no indication that biotechnology will solve the shortcomings of industrial agriculture.

Compared to the novel and untested crop systems that biotech corporations are pushing as the only solution to food security problems, organic farming has many advantages. The majority of genetically engineered crops currently in cultivation do not appear to show higher yields.

  46. QUESTION:
What is causing my Pug to have chronic ear infections?
After spending big bucks at the vet for ear infection medication, changing to wheat free dog food, keeping his ears clean (but not too clean) with natural ear wash, my pug continues to get ear infections and go deaf every few weeks. what else do i try?

    • ANSWER:
Your dog may have a food allergy that is not related to wheat. Some dogs are allergic to a specific protein source, usually beef, chicken, or eggs. He can also be allergic to corn or soy, or anything else for that matter. If you are trying to rule out a food allergy, you must feed a limited ingredient diet with novel protein and carb sources for 3 full months before making a determination. Good choices are Nature's Variety, California Natural (most affordable in the list), Natural Balance, Go! Natural, Eagle Pack Holistic, and Wellness Simple Solutions.

That said, it may also be environmental allergies, which are treated by keeping him free from the offending allergens and giving oral medication. Does he itch a lot or are the ear infections his only symptom? If he does not itch or lick his paws I would doubt this is allergy-related. It may be another health issue altogether. You may need to get him a second opinion.

      Good luck!

How can I naturally fight spring time allergies?
I'm 30 weeks pregnant and my obstetrician said I could take an antihistamine if I felt my allergies got bad enough but reminded me that they can make me drowsy and in turn make the baby drowsy. I really would prefer not to take medication unless I absolutely have to.

Can someone please suggest something natural for me.

    • ANSWER:
you can always take a regular allergy medication that doesn't have the high quantities of antihistamine which is a decongestant. if you are only sneezing i would think it would be ok to take a regular pill such as claritan or zertec. if you have a bad stopped up nose any kind of nose spray can help with that. the saline solution will help reduce the swelling in the nasal passages and help you breathe. im a male so i cant comment on the baby situation but i hope this helps. if your allergies are always bad you could also look into imunotherapy which is a shot of allergens to help you build up an immunity to the allergens you are allergic to.
